Welcome to the Lynemouth Power Ltd website.
On these pages you’ll find lots of interesting information about our power station which is located in the Northumberland coastal community of Lynemouth. Our 135 employees each have an important role to play in generating safe and sustainable energy. And we’ll share with you examples of how Lynemouth Power plays its part in the local community.
Lynemouth Power Station has generated electricity from coal since 1972. The plant was originally built, owned and operated by Alcan with the purpose of providing safe and secure energy for the production of aluminium at the adjacent Lynemouth Smelter.
Our exciting plan is to convert the power station from coal burn generation to biomass. On completion, we would be able to supply the National Grid with up to 390 megawatts of low carbon electricity.
